How Akeman Capital Manages Your Portfolio

Akeman Capital’s portfolio managers can provide our clients with various concepts or model portfolios. However, if you are considering entrusting your money to Akeman Capital we would like to consult with you. Our portfolio managers can explain how they will craft a basket of stocks, bonds or mutual funds that would fit your personal wealth accumulation goals and risk tolerances.

Although we are able to offer standardized portfolios for a sum as small as $5000, our fully customized portfolios start at $50,000. Apart from first time investing, we can also take control over any current portfolio of stocks, bonds, mutual funds or commodities and revamp it to suit your new goals and preferences.

Asset Allocation

Many of our prospective clients know what financial vehicles they think they would like to own, but knowing what portion of their savings they should allocate to each of these leaves them in a quandary? The decision made on asset allocation is crucial to understanding investment returns over the long term. Through partnering with one of our portfolio mangers, an asset allocation strategy is tailor-made for each client after a detailed consultancy on their investment goals, savings patterns and appetite for risk has occurred.

Timing

One area of concern for the novice, and savvy investor alike, is when to buy, when to sell and when to re-allocate; many need assistance with regard to the proper timing of investment decisions. Our focus is on preserving a portfolio’s value.

Flexibility

Many investors are bullish on particular stocks and expect their portfolio manager to accommodate their sector preferences when investing their capital. Please don't expect to be able to completely dictate what stocks or sectors your portfolio manager will acquire on your behalf if our research and due diligence do not lead us down that path.

What You Can Expect From Akeman Capital Portfolio Managers:

  • A personal relationship manager through whom you can interact with the other team members at Akeman Capital.
  • Frequent (scheduled) interaction with your portfolio manager to discuss any concerns that you might have.
  • Consultation on any major changes on the need for asset allocation/re-balancing or in the investment strategy relating to your portfolio.
  • Track of capital gains (and losses) for tax abatement purposes.
  • Any and all administrative matters.

Your portfolio has been discussed, managed and implemented. You are beginning to see the anticipated results of the plan and are now thinking what your next, calculated move should be. Should it be to reinvest? Should it be to take out cash? What are the tax ramifications of such decisions? Who is beat suited to make these judgements and protect your hard earned gains?

As the final step in the investment cycle, Akeman Capital is prepared to consult and advise our clients on how to realize profits and mitigate their tax exposure and any associated fees, if any. Small costs are always associated with locking in the profits and knowing what to expect, re-balancing once profit realization is activated, and how to minimize these costs is another all important area of our expertise.

If the liquidity of an asset is not mandated by other forces, our portfolio managers can than analyze the current asset classes, define sectors in which a portfolio is underweight, then re-balance and allocate the profits accordingly from the over-performing areas to the weaker ones, thus creating a more holistic portfolio and once again mitigating risk.

Note: Short term losses may be a result of re-balancing after profit realization but in the greater frame of time, it will help to maximize overall performance and minimize the chances of significant losses down the road.
